This is a practical sailing test conducted by an RYA Coach Assessor to assess the level of your sailing skills. We would recommend that, prior to your assessment, you should be a confident and competent sailor with appropriate background knowledge. If you would like to discuss your sailing experience with a view to taking this course, please contact us. A combined training and assessment course can be offered if required.

The assessment will include:

• Sailing on all points of sail
• Sail a tight circular course, one tack, one gybe
• Sail a 'follow-my-leader' course
• Pick up a man-overboard dummy
• Come alongside (this could be a windward or leeward shore)
• Anchoring

Tuition is provided by an RYA Coach Assessor.

Previous Experience required: RYA Seamanship skills and/or equivalent experience (It is not necessary to have any RYA qualifications to take this assessment, sailing competence is the key factor)
